Some Background...

The University of Oxford was established during the 12th Century but it was not until 1429 that its arms, an open book with seven seals between three crowns, were officially sanctioned.
The Latin inscription was added later and translates as 'The Lord is my Light'.
The official registered device of the University is a variant of the coat of arms. Its design is consistent with Oxford's world-wide reputation for excellence and quality.
