Some Background...

The University of Manchester Commemorative Jewellery

The University of Manchester was created on 22nd October 2004 by bringing together The Victoria University of Manchester and UMIST, two of Britain's most distinguished universities, to create a powerful new force in British Higher Education.

The shield from the University coat of arms shows a sun appearing over the edge of a cloud symbolising growing enlightenment. Below the cloud are three bees which are taken from the City of Manchester coat of arms.
